I arrived at Schiphol to take a train to Utrecht but the power was down so no trains were running. I ordered an uber which had a 15 minute wait. Whilst I was waiting the taxicentrale driver approached me and said that the uber will not come, he will use my booking to access the airport and then cancel me and look for a higher cash fare. I asked how he knew this and said he used to do it himself when he drove uber.
He offered to take me straight away so i asked how much. He said it’s on the meter but would be around €90. I said ok and we got on our way. The roads were clear, no traffic at all, and we got to Utrecht in 30 minutes. En route, the driver asked why i was visiting and I explained i’d come from London for one night for an important event. When we arrived he said it’s €168!!! I queried why it was so much more than his estimate and he just said “it’s the meter” but couldn’t show me the meter anywhere to prove it. I was completely ripped off being charged that for a 30 minute journey but had no choice but to pay. I would avoid this company at all costs. They are criminals.
